Troubleshooting BenefitPoint

  • Updated

Please note that your firm/brokerage specific BenefitPoint configurations may prevent PerfectQuote from sending plans to BenefitPoint, or may result in carrier and/or benefit mismatches.

Below are common scenarios that may result in issues; please check with your internal BenefitPoint Admin and your BenefitPoint Account Manager for further details.

Carrier change not allowed for renewals

Upon confirming a sold plan in PerfectQuote and marking a plan to send to BenefitPoint as a "Renewal Plan", if you've selected a "Prior Year Carrier" that differs from your renewal plan's carrier, then you may receive an error indicating that "Carrier change is not allowed for renewals".

To resolve: this error means that your renewal plan issuing carrier must match the issuing carrier of your prior year plan. Please select a prior year plan with the same carrier as your renewal plan.

Carrier not available as a Billing carrier

Upon confirming a sold plan in PerfectQuote and marking a plan to send to BenefitPoint as a "New plan" or "Renewal Plan", you may receive an error indicating that "Carrier is not available as a Billing Carrier".

To resolve: this error means that the issuing carrier of the plan you are trying to send over to BenefitPoint, is not allowed as a "Billing Carrier". Please check with your internal BenefitPoint Admin and your BenefitPoint Account Manager for further details.

Carrier not available for renewal plans

Upon confirming a sold plan in PerfectQuote and marking a plan to send to BenefitPoint as a "Renewal Plan", you may receive an error indicating that "Carrier is not available for renewal plans".

To resolve: this error means that your renewal plan issuing carrier is not allowed to be used for renewal plans. Please check with your internal BenefitPoint Admin and your BenefitPoint Account Manager for further details.

Carrier mismatches

Upon sending a plan to BenefitPoint, you may determine that the plan's issuing carrier is slightly different than what you may expect. This may be due to variations in how carriers are maintained within BenefitPoint (ex: variations of naming, acronyms, misspellings etc.).

If this is the case, please see this article on using our BenefitPoint carrier mapping tool.

BenefitPoint carrier changes

If you update BP-PQ carrier mappings (above) and then see plans imported to PQ with empty/incorrect carrier, follow these steps:
First, make any change to the plan/s on the BP side, such as adding a space to end of plan name, or change a benefit value slightly. Updates will then sync from BP to PQ, which might take 15-30 minutes. Then, see if the carrier updates accordingly in PQ. Finally, you can reverse the changes made in BP.

Age banded rate issues

If you are experiencing issues syncing age banded rates from PerfectQuote to BenefitPoint, please note the following restrictions around age banded rates in BenefitPoint:

  • For the lowest age band, ie - "Age X and under", the lowest age X can only be 1, 15, 18, 20, 21, 25, or increments of 5 thereafter.
  • The highest age band, ie - "Age X and over" allows a maximum age of 80.
  • Age bands must be either 1, 5 or 10 years.

If the age banded rates for your plan in PerfectQuote do not meet these criteria, they will not sync to BenefitPoint.
