Is My File Supported? Understanding Carrier File Types

Generally, carriers provide quotes in Word (.doc and .docx), PDF (.pdf) or Excel (.xls and .xlsx) file formats.

PerfectQuote follows this standard and supports the following file extensions in the Quote Upload Wizard:  

  • .doc and .docx
  • .pdf
  • .xls and .xlsx
  • .zip

To ensure a successful carrier quote file upload in PerfectQuote, please confirm that the carrier file contains ALL* of the following data elements prior to uploading in the Quote Upload Wizard:  

1. Carrier file is fully readable i.e. you can copy & paste all text/data from the file, including the carrier name
2. Carrier name is fully readable cannot be a scanned image or a logo image
3. Rates
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision plans are supported with composite rates only
 
  • Basic Life, Voluntary Life and Disability (STD/LTD) quote files are supported with composite rates and/or age rates
4. Plan Benefits  
5. Effective date if missing, PerfectQuote will default to 1/1/current plan year

* Missing data elements may result in a quote upload error in the Quote Upload Wizard

 

The following carrier file types and formats are not supported by PerfectQuote:

  • A PDF in a non-readable format.** To verify, use ctrl +A to determine if you can select all text. 
  • ACA Medical SBCs (Create ACA Medical Plans From Our Plan Library In Seconds!)
  • Age rated Dental & Vision
  • ASO/Self-funded plans
  • Carrier renewal letters
  • Censuses
  • Files that only contain benefits or only contain rates
  • Gender rated plans
  • Grandfathered plans
  • Macros enabled excel files (.xlsm) or binary excel files (.xlsb)
  • Plan summaries*** (How to Zip and Upload Quote Files)
  • Scanned/Print to PDF files**** 
  • Worksite Products: Critical Illness/Accident/Hospital Indemnity/Leave Management/Cancer Protection/Whole Life

** Use the "Save As" feature when saving files to your desktop. 

*** Limited support

**** Using the "Print to PDF" feature when saving a carrier file will cause a quote upload error in PerfectQuote
